The maiden edition of Okpoko 1 League Cup tournament sponsor by Eze Ndiigbo of Ijegun/Ijododo and president/founder Ndigbo Buru Otu Association of Nigeria, HRH Eze (DR) Ambassador Chika C. Nwokedi yesterday Saturday 5th of September 2026 expressed confidence in the capacities of Okpoko 1 league Cup championship this weekend to fight for one million naira prize money. The football match will begin their campaigns league competition with legend stars football team against Eastern brothers football team, while Obi Udo football team lock horns with Ndi-Igbo Buru-otu football team at the Oropo school sports ground Abaranje road, Ikotun Lagos. Both are preliminary round, first leg matches. Speaking with City Express News, Eze Nwokedi, said that Okpoko 1 league will make him proud. “I have no doubt in the capacity of each of the teams, to battle for one million naira price money”.
The Eze Okpoko 1 league cup which kicks off on 30th August 2026 attracted prominent community leaders, political office stakeholders, football enthusiasts, football players, supporters club and members of the Igbo speaking community in Lagos. According to Eze Nwokedi, Sunday match is going to be interesting as he has employed the service of FIFA trained coach to work on the Ndigbo Buru-Otu squad’s tactical and technical execution, physical conditioning and overall team cohesion.
He noted that, he will be wearing Jersey no.9 to play against their equally well prepared and ambition opponents. He said, Okpoko 1 football league is to foster peace, unity, promote grassroots football development and empower youths through sports. “I’m doing this to make youth focus on sports football and stay away from crime. He invited Nigeria football federation (NFF) members and Nigeria, coaches to come and look for talented players for super Eagles team.
